Betty Jean's Mobile Country Store

Our Mission

Inspired by the 40-year nursing legacy of the late Betty Jean Mayer, our nonprofit was born from a simple but powerful mission: to bring care, convenience, and a little extra joy directly to our senior community.

Betty Jean spent her life as a nurse and manager at St. Vincent Hospital, dedicated to serving others with dignity and compassion.

Today, her family honors that spirit through our mobile service, ensuring that seniors have easy access to the essentials they need and the personal connection they deserve.

We don’t just deliver goods—we deliver the same heartfelt commitment to service that Betty Jean practiced every day of her career.

Betty Jean's Story

Betty Jean Mayer

From her earliest years, Betty Jean Mayer was driven by a singular purpose: to help others. Inspired by the grace and compassion of her own mother’s nursing career, Betty Jean dedicated her life to the healing arts, eventually becoming a Nurse Manager at St. Vincent Hospital. Her career spanned more than 40 years, during which she became a cornerstone of her medical community and a mentor to countless caregivers.

Betty Jean’s influence extended deeply into her own family; her daughter, Karen, followed her into the profession. The two shared a unique and professional bond, serving patients side-by-side at St. Vincent until Betty Jean’s retirement. Her tenure was defined not just by medical expertise, but by an unwavering commitment to the dignity of every individual she treated.

A Living Legacy: Betty Jean’s Mobile Country Store

Following her passing, Betty Jean’s family sought a way to ensure her spirit of service continued to flourish. In her honor, they established Betty Jean’s Mobile Country Store, a nonprofit organization designed to support the senior community. By bringing convenience, essential goods, and genuine connection directly to seniors, the organization carries forward Betty Jean’s lifelong mission of providing care and joy to those who need it most.

Founder

Karen Bledsoe

A dedicated caregiver and second-generation nurse, Karen Bledsoe has spent over four decades upholding a family legacy of service and compassion. Inspired by her mother, the late Betty Jean Mayer, Karen pursued a career in nursing that spanned more than 35 years with Providence Health Systems. During their overlapping tenures at St. Vincent Hospital, Karen and Betty Jean became a familiar duo, providing high-level care across different departments while sharing a unified mission of healing.

Karen’s commitment to the senior community extended beyond the hospital walls. Alongside her husband, Greg Bledsoe, she owned and operated two adult care homes, creating environments centered on dignity, respect, and personalized support for the elderly.

Today, Karen remains a devoted mother to her son, Tanner Bledsoe, and continues to honor her mother’s spirit through her work with Betty Jean’s Mobile Country Store. Whether through professional nursing or community-focused initiatives, she remains steadfast in her lifelong vocation of helping others.
