Betty Jean's Story

Betty Jean Mayer

Betty Jean knew from an early age that she wanted to help people. Some of her earliest memories were of watching her mother work as a nurse—caring for others with compassion and grace. Inspired by that example, Betty Jean set her heart on doing the same.

She went on to become a Nurse Manager at St. Vincent Hospital, where she served her community with dedication for over 40 years. Her daughter, Karen, followed in her footsteps, learning from Betty Jean’s example and eventually joining her at St. Vincent. Together, they cared for patients side by side until Betty Jean’s retirement.

After Betty Jean’s recent passing, her family wanted her legacy of kindness and service to live on. In her honor, Betty Jean’s Mobile Country Store was created—a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the senior community by bringing convenience, care, and a little joy directly to them.

Founders

Karen Bledsoe

Karen Bledsoe, daughter of the late Betty Jean Mayer, has dedicated her life to caregiving and service. Following in her mother’s footsteps, Karen became a registered nurse and spent over 35 years with Providence Health Systems, where she worked alongside Betty Jean at St. Vincent Hospital—often on different floors, but always sharing the same commitment to compassionate care.

Karen and her husband, Greg Bledsoe, also owned and operated two adult care homes, continuing their shared mission of supporting seniors with dignity and respect. She is the proud mother of Tanner Bledsoe, and remains devoted to honoring her mother’s legacy through the work of Betty Jean’s Mobile Country Store.

Greg Bledsoe

Greg Bledsoe has spent much of his career serving the senior community. Alongside his wife, Karen Bledsoe, he owned and operated two adult care homes, providing compassionate, personalized care. With a background as an Activity Director, Greg worked across Skilled Nursing Facilities (SNF), Assisted Living (AL), Retirement (RET), and Alzheimer’s (ALZ) units, bringing creativity and joy to residents.

He also created and produced Always Light Zentertainment (ALZ), a DVD designed to enrich the lives of individuals living with memory loss. Today, Greg owns and operates TKG Transport, a Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT) company committed to safe and reliable service.
